Stem cells are cells that can turn into other cells. There happens to be a lot of stem cells in fat tissues. We take a sample of fat tissue and remove the stem cells using a unique processing technique from Medivet. We collect platelets from the patients blood and separate them into a platelet rich fragment. Platelets contain a wide range of growth factors that stimulate healing and regeneration.
The stem cells and combined with platelets using a special ultraviolet light which activates them ie “switches them on.” The activated stem cells and growth factors are then injected into the area that needs to be cured such as an arthritic joint.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is currently the most common use for stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine. We have had some remarkable success stories where animals became pain free following stem cell therapy where all other medicines had failed.
