Grass Seed Foreign Bodies

Grass Seed Foreign Bodies

Every spring and early summer, we see a large number of furry pets that get grass seed stuck in their coat which penetrate the skin causing painful wounds that get infected. The grass seeds can also migrate through the body and end up inside the chest or abdomen causing life threatening disease. We recommend you get your dog cut very short in October for the grass seed season. Grass seeds get between toes, up noses, in ears, up penis sheaths and into vaginas and can turn up just about anywhere in the skin and subcutis.
