After hours veterinary care
This is the incredible survival story of Gary. This is also a story about the unbreakable human-animal bond between Gary and his loving mum and dad. When Gary came to see us, he was in trouble.
Gary was bleeding out from a large ruptured liver cancer. Gary was dying. His mum and dad would do anything humanly possible to try and save him. They desperately wanted to give Gary a chance. Gary wasn’t ready to say goodbye.
It was late at night. Dr Rob had already worked a fifteen hour day. Gary needed a four or five hour surgery. Dr Rob stepped up. It was the time of champions. Dr Rob knew he could do it.
Gary was bleeding out before our eyes. He was very weak and very anaemic. His liver was riddles with aggressive cancer. If you look in Gary’s eyes in the video, you can see that Gary is afraid but he hasn’t given up hope. Gary is incredibly brave. He loves his mum and dad and he desperately wants to be well again and to be with them.
Dr Rob listened to these beautiful people. They just didn’t want it to end like this. They wanted to save Gary…..
It was going to be one of Dr Rob’s greatest challenges but this loving couple wasn’t ready to say goodbye……and neither was Gary
Dr Rob saved Gary. We took Gary to surgery, removed the cancer and stopped the bleeding. Gary had to have an emergency liver lobectomy but he survived the anaesthetic, he survived the surgery and he was eating like nothing happened the next morning. This incredible story was made into a video. The following video contains some intraoperative footage. This is the censored version which is in black and white: Gary’s Story
For those feeling very brave, you can watch the graphic version. You can’t appreciate the miracle without seeing how bad things were for Gary. This is an incredible story. The graphic version is not for the faint hearted. If you don’t like the sight of blood, do not watch the graphic version. This is a little confronting. Posted with permission of the owners.
