The Apologue

Bandit brings down bicyclists and ends up in hospital….a dog’s tale. Over to Bandit………

Dad wanted to go fishing and we left really early before the sun came up. It was a beautiful winter morning. The air was still. The water was like glass. Dad was fishing. I stood by his side as the sun came up. It was just perfect.

After a while I started to get a bit restless because I’m only a year old you know. I started to sniff around. Suddenly I heard a group on bicycles panting hard as they chatted among themselves as they peddled hard towards where dad was fishing. There’s just something about moving wheels and people in bright coloured lycra. I just had to greet them in a hysterically passionate way. I dashed towards those turning wheels mesmerised by the hum of those revolving spokes. I just never imagined what would happen next…..

The Remorse

I was walloped hard as the cyclists ploughed into me tumbling over the handle bars. It was a very sorry scene. My leg was aching. I couldn’t walk on my leg. Everyone was yelling at me. I was very sad.

The cyclists were OK so my dad rushed me to Treendale Pet Medical. I had some X-rays and my heart sunk when I heard the news. My leg was broken. There was a complete fracture of the radius and some fissures in the bone that would see my radius displace if I didn’t have surgery. I needed a bone plate put on my leg. I just couldn’t believe this was happening.

Dad had to leave me at the hospital. Dr Rob was going to fix me straight away. I had some funny medicine and the whole world went a little bit weird.

The Reconciliation

I don’t remember much until I woke up in hospital with a nice nurse giving me a hug and putting a blanket on me to keep me warm. My leg wasn’t aching like it was because I had some very strong pain killers. Nurse Kayla showed me my X-rays. I was very happy with how it all looked but now I’m missing my Dad.

I feel very sad about making all the cyclists fall off their bike. I feel very sad that I can’t be with my Master. I feel very sad that my leg has been broken. I am thinking about pulling my bandage off but I think I’ve caused enough trouble for one day. I’m getting some chicken so I’ll just have to try and get through this. Dad is coming tomorrow.

Because my bones are young and my leg has been reconstructed with excellent alignment and anatomical reduction using a bone plate, Dr Rob says my leg will be healed in six weeks. That is better than I was expecting. I was worried whether my leg would be OK but my wonderful Daddy let Dr Rob fix my leg properly. I am going to be OK………I hope I don’t do anything silly when I go home.
